Dear Messiah Friends and Family,
When Jesus says, “Come and see,” he is not inviting us into a flawless life.
He is inviting us into a practiced one.
Following Jesus has never been about getting everything right. It’s about learning a way of life—shaped over time through grace, missteps, growth, and trust. The first disciples certainly didn’t have it all figured out. They misunderstood. They hesitated. They failed. And still, Jesus kept walking with them.
There is no shame in that story—only belonging.
Discipleship is not a performance.
It’s a practice.
It’s something we return to again and again: learning how to love, how to listen, how to give, how to show up with our whole selves. Sometimes we move forward with confidence. Sometimes we take small steps. Sometimes we pause altogether. All of that is part of the journey.
That’s why, in this community, we try to make room for growth instead of perfection. Because faith grows the same way love grows—slowly, honestly, and differently for each of us.
If you were in church on Sunday, you received a simple commitment card (click here for online version), not as a demand, not as a test, and not as something you need to fill out right away. Think of it as a tool for prayerful reflection. A way to gently ask where God might be inviting you to grow and what practices might help shape your life in love.
There is no rush. No comparison. No pressure.
Because discipleship is not about checking a box.
It’s about practicing a life of love.
Hope to see you on Sunday,
Pastor Bob
